The tour starts from Antananarivo towards Antsirabe, in the heart of the Highlands, between rice paddies and volcanic hills. It continues on to Ranomafana, famous for its national park and its humid tropical forest. The road then descends to Isalo, where rocky massifs, canyons and natural pools spread out. Continuing towards the south, you reach Tulear, the gateway to the coast, before joining Ifaty, a seaside resort with white sandy beaches, turquoise lagoons and baobab forests.

Southern Madagascar Tour - Details of the itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Antananarivo

Meet at the airport by your driver / guide.
Private transfer to your hotel. Check-in and free time to rest after the flight.
Depending on the arrival time, possibility to take a short walk around the hotel or enjoy a first glimpse of the Malagasy capital.

Day 2 – Antananarivo – Antsirabe – Ranomafana

Breakfast at the hotel, then early departure towards the south along the famous National Road 7.
The road winds through the Malagasy highlands, typical landscapes of terraced rice fields and villages with red brick houses.
Stop in Ambatolampy, a small town renowned for its workshops that craft aluminium cooking pots.
Continue to Antsirabe, a charming spa town founded by Norwegian missionaries, nicknamed ‘the city of water’.
In the afternoon, continue south towards Ranomafana.

Day 3 – Ranomafana – Ambalavao – Isalo

Early departure after breakfast at the hotel to visit Ranomafana National Park. This park is one of the most beautiful in Madagascar, famous for its humid rainforest, its waterfalls and the great diversity of its lemurs and endemic birds.
After the visit, drive towards Ambalavao and stop at the Anja community reserve. This small reserve is home to many ring-tailed lemurs, called makis, and offers superb views over the massif’s rock formations.
Continue towards Ranohira in the afternoon.
Check-in at the hotel at the end of the day.

Day 4 – Isalo – Tulear – Ifaty

Early departure to visit Isalo National Park. This park is famous for its spectacular desert landscapes, its deep canyons, its rock formations sculpted by wind and water, as well as its natural pools where you can refresh yourself. It also has unique flora, such as giant aloes, and varied fauna, including some lemurs.
After the visit, drive to Ifaty in the early afternoon.
Check-in at the hotel and free time to enjoy the beach or relax.

Day 5 – Ifaty

Free day to enjoy the beach and the hotel’s surroundings. Possibility to relax and swim.

Day 6 – Ifaty – Toliara – Antananarivo

Departure to Tulear airport depending on flight schedule.
Flight to Antananarivo.

Day 7 - Departure from Madagascar

Depending on your flight schedule, it is possible to take a city tour of Antananarivo and visit the craft market to buy some souvenirs.
